The Hospice Bereavement Service serves people in all communities of the Helderberg.  We offer support to anyone who has experienced a loss due to death, and specifically to the families of hospice patients.

The service is available to those families who would like someone to share their experience of loss, knowing that this is a trained person who understands and has knowledge of the grieving process. The trained volunteers have satisfaction in deepening their counselling skills and being of help to others.

In addition to helping individuals and families, the work carried out by the social workers and volunteer bereavement supporters relieves the professional nurses – who need to concentrate on the medical and nursing challenges of life-threatening illness.  The nurses also feel a sense of relief in knowing that the Bereavement Service will carry on supporting grieving relatives for some time after the patient’s death.
