The objectives of Day Hospice are to give patients an opportunity to interact and socialise with other patients, to feel less like “patients” and more like “people”, to afford families and home carers respite, to offer special evaluation, clinical monitoring, rehabilitation and care.
Day Hospice is organised and run by two volunteer groups on Wednesday’s and Thursdays. Patients are transported weekly by volunteers to spend a morning at Hospice.
Patients are offered:
- Spiritual support
- Group therapy
- Craft activities
- Tea, sandwiches, cakes
- Outings about 4 times a year
- Opportunity for Home Care sisters to check the patient at Hospice
- To address practical concerns (ie. pensions)
- Therapeutic activities
