How to become a Volunteer
If you are interested in volunteering you can contact Helderberg Hospice. The volunteer co-ordinator will explain the procedure to you. You will be requested to attend an orientation meeting and complete an application form. The information meeting briefly covers all the services and aspects of Helderberg Hospice and will give you a compact overview of the Organization.
There are two types of volunteers : enablers – these volunteers do not have direct contact with patients and caregivers – these volunteers have direct patient contact. Caregivers are trained further in palliative care. If you prefer to be an enabler, you will be trained further to assist in the specific areas needed.
You can assist in these areas:
Patient and family care :
Caregiving, Counselling, Bereavement, Nursing, Day Hospice, Spiritual, Social Work, Different Therapies.
Transport of patients, practical help :
ie. hair cutting, nail care, shopping, Plates of eats for support groups.
General :
Reception, Maintenance, Gardening, Meal Collection, Administration tasks, Crafts, Art, Music, Flower arranging, Needle Work, Language skills, Shopping, write articles.
Fundraising :
Projects re. fundraising, Hospice Shops, Club 1000, Autumn Fayre, Carols by Candlelight, Catering, Street Collections, Golf Day, Dance Marathon and other fundraising events. Help towards card recycling.
Promotion and Marketing :
Ticket sales for concerts etc. posters, advertising and photography.
